Shaun Edwards deserves a consistent run in the seniors according to Robert Shaw.
Edwards' consistent form with Essendon VFL was rewarded last week with a spot in the senior side against Richmond - allowing him to play in his first game of the year.
Placed on the wing by the Coaches, Edwards fought off a slow start to work himself into the game collecting 14 disposals (including six contested), laying two tackles and two clearances.
The effort from Edwards could not be questioned with Shaw encouraging coaches to give the youngster another chance against the Dockers this week.
“He didn’t have a great game, but I’m so glad that they’re playing him,” said Shaw
“That boy has talent and it’s up to the coaching group and the development coaches to make him a player.
“If you’ve got exquisite talent, which he has got, you have to maximise it.”
Shaw also saw great promise in the development of Patrick Ambrose as a defender.
After a nervous start, Ambrose held Richmond’s Jack Riewoldt accountable for the night in what Shaw saw as a good match-up.
“The match-up was great and I was very happy with that,” said Shaw
“Ambrose has the physical capacity to match him one-on-one, but also a great aerobic power.”
