Versatile defender Jim Ferry is confident the VFL side's best football lies ahead, as the team prepares for the run home.
Essendon will be back in action this Saturday night against the second placed Casey Scorpions at Casey Fields.
Fresh from a week off with the bye, the Bombers will look to help secure their spot in the finals with just four games remaining.
Ferry is keen for a big finish to the season after missing seven matches with a knee injury.
The 21 year-old returned for the Bombers in the loss to Geelong picking up 14 kicks, two handballs, five marks and five rebound 50’s.
Ferry said that he was hoping his injury troubles were behind him.
“My body is feeling good now, the knee feels great and got a lot of confidence in it now,” he said.
“The last 11 weeks on the sidelines has been tough but it’s been good to slot back in. I got through the Geelong match ok but it was great just to play footy again.”
The VFL group met following the Geelong loss and understand what they need to improve, not only against Casey, but also against Williamstown, North Ballarat and the Northern Blues.
“We sat down as a group and spoke about what we did wrong and what did right from the Geelong game, we know exactly what we need to do,” Ferry said.
“Casey this week is a huge test and Willy next week, how we go in these two games will set us up for finals. Last year we had a couple of big wins late in the year and that gave us a lot of momentum heading into the finals.
“There is a lot of excitement around the club; we feel our best football is in front of us.”
The Bombers sit in eighth position with seven wins, four points clear of Werribee and the Northern Blues on six wins each.
Saturday night’s game will start at 7pm, with live coverage on VFL Radio from 6.55pm.
