Essendon Coach John Worsfold says he’ll be looking to establish a settled forward line in 2017.

The Bombers rotated a number of players through the attacking half this year.

Joe Daniher led the side’s goal kicking with 43 goals ahead of Orazio Fantasia (29), Mitch Brown (20) and Kyle Langford (12).

Essendon ranked 18th for goals and 16th for marks inside 50.

“We really need to get it settled and functioning really well where it’s going to be able to kick winning scores,” Worsfold told Bomber Radio.

“We know that that’s taking into account that Joe is still a developing player and we saw more growth from him this year in a very trying year, I think he’s going to continue to blossom.

“Fantasia, with his first taste of it, he’s still a rookie forward he’s going to get better.

“We’ve had a look at Walla playing forward and back and we think that he can offer something.

“Obviously adding in a more elite midfield is going make a big difference to that as well.”

In addition to Anthony McDonald-Tipungwuti, Essendon was able to have a look at Mark Baguley in attack.

The two time winner of the Club’s most courageous award has made his name in defence but generated five shots at goal in his two outings in attack.

When Mark Jamar was called up to the side, the Bombers were able to see the effect of playing two ruckmen – a move that may become more regular next year with the return of Tom Bellchambers.

“We have been having a look at a different mixes and types of forward line structures, different personnel with the view to just learn as much as we can,” Worsfold said.

“Now, the challenge is to say ‘what do we think is going to be our long-term best forward line and start to settle that’, so that will be aim over summer.”
