Brent Stanton will not rush his decision on making a return to football next year.
Speaking on Channel 7’s Game Day program on Sunday, Stanton spoke optimistically about his time away from the game and intentions for the future.
“This has been my first break for 13-years really and a forced break has sort of been mentally refreshing, and my body is obviously getting better with this extended rest,” Stanton said.
“It’s given me an opportunity to spend a lot more time with my kids than what I would have previously with weekends being free.”
Stanton has been training hard alongside his teammates away from the Club, seeing that this will play an extremely important part of his decision to return to football.
The 248-gamer, however, will still take his time to mentally refresh and make the decision that is right for him at this stage of his career.
Fans will be reaffirmed by Stanton’s revelation that, if he is to continue his football journey, he will be looking to return to the Bombers.
“My management and the footy club are working through that at the moment, it’s a tough situation to be involved with at the moment,” Stanton said.
“I’ve spoken to John (Worsfold) and there seems to be a spot there for me and the guys have been really good in terms of support throughout the season.
“I’ve been there since the day I turned 18-years old, I’ve spent almost half my life there.
“I bleed red and black and that’s what I know, and where I know to go.
“Pretty much I get in my car and my car almost takes me there straight away.
“It’s a fantastic football club, you’ve seen a lot of good young kids coming through this year and it’s an exciting time for the club.
“You go to where your mates are and that’s where my mates are.”
Stanton has been part of the club’s fabric since 2004 and has been one of the team’s most serviceable midfielders over the years.
His leadership on and off the field is highly valued by the coaches and his peers, and his return to the club will be extremely important for the club’s next generation of players.
