Improvement will be a key focus area for the Bombers this season according to new skipper Brendon Goddard.
The Bombers are coming off a six win season in 2015 and will enter this year without some of their best players.
A difficult three years reached its peak last week when the Court of Arbitration for Sport released its finding.
It provided somewhat of a full stop to a dark chapter in Essendon’s history.
Goddard said the players were now focused on igniting the Football Club’s next great era.
“As a group it’s about improving, it’s about getting better, it’s about creating our own history,” he said.
“This group has got a real opportunity to create it’s own history and we’re all looking forward to picking the Club back up and getting it back on its feet.
“I think the guys are really looking forward to the challenge, as difficult a circumstance as it is.”
Goddard said the situation he and his teammates have been presented with, will also create opportunity.
“We’re here because we love footy, we love training, we love competing and we love winning,” Goddard said.
“The first and second year players are all out there and looking to get a game.
“They see it as a real opportunity that they’re going to be exposed to AFL football early in their careers.”
