Development and VFL assistant coach Mark Corrigan says there is plenty of room for improvement following Saturday’s 21-point win over Geelong on Saturday.

The Cats were able to take the lead throughout the last term before the Bombers kicked away with four late goals.

“There is a lot to learn from the game but when you take the four points it’s a good result,” Corrigan said.

“It was a game not necessarily of two halves, but it ebbed and flowed.

“What was most pleasing was that Geelong challenged us in the last quarter and got up on the scoreboard but to the boys credit they found a way to get themselves out of it and to get the victory.”

The Bombers led by a straight kick at the half time break and skipped away to a 30-point lead midway through the third term, showcasing some of their best play of the year.

The Cats fought back to close the gap to just nine points at the last change in which Corrigan said the coaches messages remained the same.

“The message was sticking with what worked, keeping it simple and playing their roles and not deviating away from that,” he said.

“I think we did in the first half, but the second half was much better. The boys were able to have confidence that if they did that well the result would go our way.

“I wouldn’t say it was never in doubt, but we had the confidence the guys would be able to find a way to win and sure enough they did.”

Corrigan was full of praise for the likes of Mark Jamar, Daniel Coghlan and Jack Langford who booted three goals and was a focal point up forward while Jackson Merrett, Martin Gleeson and Conor McKenna had the impact the coaches hoped for.

The Bombers, now fourth on the ladder, take on the bottom-placed Coburg at Piranha Park on Sunday from 2pm.

Corrigan said the side will be focusing on putting together a four quarter performance.

“We have seen we can play patches like the start of the third quarter where we kicked four goals in the space of about six minutes – its playing that brand of footy but consistently for four quarters that we are trying to work on,” he said.

“I wouldn’t look too much into that Coburg haven’t won a game, that’s not the way to prepare.

"We come out and prepare like we do every week and expect a tough match.”
