Essendon takes on Melbourne in its first game at the MCG this season.

The Bombers have brought in Michael Hartley, Orazio Fantasia and Nick Kommer.

The Demons are coming off a narrow win over Gold Coast, while the Bombers are looking to bounce back after falling to Gold Coast.

These are the burning questions.

What message do the changes to the side send?

That John Worsfold is demanding the players maintain the highest standards.

The Bombers made three changes to the round one line-up.

Such a turnover after just one game shows this is hardly a gap year for Worsfold.

He wants players in form and playing to their highest levels.

What does Michael Hartley’s inclusion do to the structure of the side?

As Robert Shaw pointed out, Hartley gives the Bombers greater flexibility.

He can play on Jesse Hogan, and allows Mitch Brown to play as a forward.

Hartley is a penetrating kick and could also take the kick outs after a Melbourne point.

What role will Nick Kommer play?

The Bombers have missed the West Australian’s relentless forward line pressure over the last two years.

He averaged more than three tackles per game in 2013 and his general pressure acts were crucial in a season where the side won enough games to qualify for the finals.

The Bombers struggled to lock the ball in their forward line last week and Kommer’s inclusion seems like a move to address that.

Expect Kommer to line-up at the feet of Joe Daniher and harass the Demons defence from start to finish.

Will the Bombers Make a Stand?

Yes.

One of the constants throughout the last three years has been the resilience of the Essendon fan base.

Their commitment will again be on show today at the MCG.

The players (past and present) will also play a key role as the club makes a stand for its future, while Heath Hocking has shown how much the Club means to him.

There are few guarantees in football, but the unwavering loyalty of the Essendon family is one thing that can always be counted on.
