Keilor Heights Primary School has taken out two awards in this year’s ‘On the Ball’ school program.
‘On the Ball’ is a community program run by the Essendon Football Club for students aged 10 – 15.
Bombers players work with students on projects that use multimedia to raise awareness about issues that affect them. Cyber bullying, drug and alcohol abuse, bullying, smoking and depression are among the topics covered.
The schools involved nominated some of their best ideas with an Essendon panel then awarding the $500 prize kindly provided by the Strathmore Branch of the Bendigo Bank and the Bill Hutchison Foundation.
“The On the Ball program has been running for a number of years now with great success,” Essendon Community Programs Manager Bernard Shepheard said.
“It is practical way to create awareness of issues that students face every day at school.
“Funds provided go directly to supporting the students ideas and help the school provide the resources needed to make those ideas come to life.”
The winning groups from Keilor Heights Primary School will use the money to create a healthy eating guideline for students who attend the school canteen and a bullying awareness board game to be available for all students to play in the school library.
