Both Mitch Brown and Paddy Ambrose started in the forward line for the Bombers.

Essendon slowed the Geelong ball movement in the first quarter. From the Cats first 17 marks, they were unable to play-on.
Despite the Dons having 35 more disposals in the opening term, the Cats took a one-point lead into the first break.
In the second term, the Bombers played an extra number at the stoppage, while Geelong had its extra player behind the ball.
Jayden Laverde went off late in the second quarter with a shoulder injury.
