Essendon faces the in form team in the competition on Saturday and that's just the way Bombers Coach John Worsfold wants it.
Sydney has lost just two games since round six.
The Dons have shown some impressive winning form too and enter the Elimination Final having won six of their last eight matches.
Worsfold doesn’t fear the Swans record and said the team wants to test themselves against the best.
“It’s not intimidating – the key thing is we haven’t worked our backsides off to qualify to play finals hoping for an easy game,” Worsfold said.
“We want to play finals because we want to play in the big stuff against the best teams in the competition when there is more at stake.
“It’s knock-out from now on for the teams outside the top four so regardless of who we’re playing we’re expecting a great challenge.
“That’s what we’ve talked about all year against all-comers – to challenge ourselves to keep improving and learning.
“This is an opportunity for us to step up to an even bigger challenge than we’ve had throughout the year.”
The Bombers are the third highest scoring team this season, while the Swans have conceded the fewest points in the competition.
The Dons also average more disposals (398-374) than the Swans and match up evenly in clearances (34-36), contested possessions (139-147) and inside 50s (52-53).
“We’re not reliant on just kicking a big score … we want to play our good scoring brand of footy but we know we’ve got to defend really hard,” Worsfold said.
“We also will back our boys in around the contest.
“Sydney have got a very strong midfield around the ball, but so do we.
“We’ve been really happy with how our guys have been in the contest especially over the last month or so … we’ve been really strong.”
