Patrick Ambrose has been named the Adam Ramanauskas Most Courageous player at the 2017 Crichton Medal.
The 26 year old joins Mark Baguley and Matt Dea as winners of the award in recent seasons.
Ambrose played the opening five games of the season, as well as the last five matches, with two quad injuries derailing the middle of his campaign.
It was that resilience as well as his ruthless approach on the field that was recognised in the final voting.
“Patty had some setbacks this year but his determination and resilience really stood out,” Essendon Coach John Worsfold said.
“He’s quickly become a key member of our defence and his dedication to his rehabilitation to come back from two significant injuries was really impressive.
“You always know Patty is going to put his body on the line out on the field and this season was no different.
“He often gives away height, but he makes up for that with his thirst for the contest and his ruthless approach."
Ambrose has played 60 games for the Bombers since making his debut in 2014.
After beginning his career as a forward, Ambrose is now a key member of the Dons defence.
