Orazio Fantasia has held off a hot field to win Essendon’s Most Improved player award at the Crichton Medal.
The 22 year old booted 39 goals in 2017, ten more than he kicked in the previous season.
He kicked three goals or more on seven occasions.
Fantasia finished 21st on the competition’s goal kicking tally, with only a handful of small forwards placed ahead of him.
“It’s a credit to Orazio to win this award given how impressive his 2016 season was,” Essendon Coach John Worsfold said.
“He kicked 29 goals last year and also spent some time in the midfield.
“This year he was predominantly used in attack but he also gave us a different look when he moved up the ground.
“To kick 39 goals – which is a great return for a small forward – is a reflection of the hard work he puts in on the training track and we’re all excited about where he can get his game to in the coming years.”
Fantasia has played 47 games for the Bombers.
