With the return of some seasoned stars and the continued development of the Bombers band of young players, the Dons will boast impressive midfield depth in 2017.

It makes for an intense battle for the midfield spots in the ‘Best 22’.

Captain Dyson Heppell, Jobe Watson, Heath Hocking, David Myers, Ben Howlett, Travis Colyer and Brent Stanton are back in the midfield mix.

They join a group featuring David Zaharakis, Zach Merrett and Darcy Parish who shouldered a lot of responsibility last season.

Brendon Goddard has proven a consistent ball winner for the Bombers over a number of seasons while Craig Bird’s ability to excel in contested ball situations was evident last season.

Kyle Langford also appears to be spending more time in the midfield this pre-season.

Matthew Leuenberger carried the ruck responsibilities for most of last season, but the return of Tom Bellchambers could see the Dons opt for a two pronged ruck set-up. Shaun McKernan’s mobility and ability to push forward is another factor to consider.

These are all questions you’ll have to answer when selecting your ‘Best 22’.
