Essendon VFL toppled one of the best teams in the competition on the weekend, defeating Williamstown by 15 points.

Some young stars and a couple of proven performers were among the players putting their hand up for senior selection.

Josh Begley

Begley was impressive for the Dons booting four goals in the side’s win. He also took three marks and laid three tackles.

He was named as an emergency in the senior side for the match against Sydney and travelled with the team but the forward returned to Melbourne on Friday night in time to play in the VFL side’s round 10 match on Saturday.

Matt Dea

Dea produced a strong performance in defence, cutting off the Seagulls forward 50 supply on a number of occasions.

The 25 year old took two contested marks and six uncontested marks throughout the match.

Darcy Parish

Parish returned to the field after missing two games with a calf injury.

He was one of the major ball winners collecting 27 disposals and booting a goal. He also took four marks and laid two tackles.

Parish has been a regular feature in the AFL side since making his debut last year and would be a handy inclusion for the match against the Lions.

Jordan Ridley

Ridley dominated against the Seagulls taking 12 marks and finishing with 26 disposals.

In his third game back after a long term back injury, the 18 year old is continuing to develop his game and is one to watch in the coming weeks.

David Myers

Myers returned to the VFL side on Saturday and was a standout for the Bombers.

He was the major ball winner of the day finishing with 32 disposals. He took five marks and laid five tackles.

He also ran forward to kick a goal.

The midfielder has played six senior games this season averaging 16 disposals and three marks.

Mitch Brown

Brown returned to the field on Saturday after injuring his ankle in round six against Melbourne.

He showed no ill-effects from his extended layoff finishing with 21 disposals, seven marks and two tackles.

In his four senior games before injury he averaged 17 disposals and five marks.

From the VFL…

Aaron Heppell

Heppell continued to build his form in his fourth game back from injury.

The 2016 best and fairest winner finished with 18 disposals, six marks and two tackles.

He was tough around the contest, continually putting pressure on the Seagulls attack.

Alex Boyse

His goal kicking has been a highlight this season, but it was the defensive pressure of Alex Boyse that stood out on Saturday.

Boyse laid six tackles creating multiple stoppages and turnovers along the way.

He finished with 12 disposals, five marks and booted one goal.
