Alex Morgan is expected to play in the VFL this Saturday after missing last week because of a hamstring concern.

The second year player, who arrived at the Bombers after a serious hamstring injury, played in the opening VFL match of the season but spent most of the second half on the bench because of some discomfort in his hamstring.

Scans cleared him of a strain with fitness staff suspecting scar tissue from his old injury was affecting the nerve around his hamstring.

“We had a procedure which is basically to try and create some space between those two things and free that up which appears to have had a really good effect,” High Performance Manager Justin Crow said.

“Alex got through training today, he had a good running session on Monday and we’re expecting Alex to play on modified game time in the VFL on Saturday.”

Jordan Ridley is nearing a return to training as he enters the final stages in his recovery from a back injury.

The number 22 pick in last November’s National Draft hasn’t played since the Bombers JLT Community Series match against Gold Coast in February.

Ridley has added six kilograms to his frame throughout his rehabilitation and is expected to join in training shortly.

“We just want to maintain that [weight] now because he’s back running,” Crow said.

"We’re holding some hope Jordan will be back in for a warm-up and then starting to do some drills in the next fortnight so things are tracking really well for him and he’s starting to build-up some momentum.”
