The Bombers will learn plenty form the match against Geelong according to Brendon Goddard.

The game showcased some of the Dons best form of the pre-season, but the side also conceded 13 goals after half time.

“This week we’ll go back and look at the first half and then look at that second half and see the differences,” Goddard told RSN.

“It is better happening now than in round one or round two.

“You get some great learning out of it and it’s a reminder for all of us about the intensity and standard needed for four quarters of footy.”

The Bombers kicked 11 goals in the first half with the side’s ball movement and ability to link up through the middle of the ground a highlight.

“It’s a reflection of the work we’ve been doing and the cattle we have on the park,” Goddard said.

“We made good strides last year and we saw a silver lining in a difficult situation with the emergence of a few players.

“You add those guys in with an experienced list and the work we’ve been doing and it came together for two quarters.

“It was fun and it was a reflection of all of the hard work we’ve been doing.”

The Bombers were ranked 18th for goals scored in 2016 but rose to sixth for ‘points for’ during the JLT Community Series.

Goddard said greater defensive pressure has allowed the side to increase its scoring.

“We’ve improved our defensive side of the game and that helps us be more aggressive with our ball movement,” he said.

“As opposed to defending in the back half we’re now defending in the forward half so it’s easier to score.

“Three years ago we were the number one intercept team in the AFL in our defensive 50 and we were the lowest scoring team because we were having to move the ball the whole length of the ground through 18 opponents – so that’s a lot harder than winning the ball back in the midfield or in the forward half.”
