Exciting Essendon trio Josh Begley, Kobe Mutch and Jordan Ridley have signed on with the Bombers until the end of the 2020 season.

All three were drafted in 2016 and dangerous forward Begley was the first to debut, playing three games in his first season and pressing on with that encouraging form again at the start of this year before unfortunately tearing his ACL on ANZAC Day.

While he is set for a stint on the sidelines, Begley said re-signing has given him the confidence to focus on his rehabilitation knowing his position at the club is secure.

“I have these coming nine months to really get stuck into the rehab knowing that I’ve got another two years, so hopefully (I can) get the body right over the next nine months,” Begley said on Tuesday.

“I’m really excited to get the surgery done this Thursday and get stuck into my rehab.

“I’m really looking forward to getting my body right and in good shape, so hopefully I can come out and play some good footy after that.”

Running on-baller Mutch joined the senior team for his first AFL match on Sunday, immediately impressing with 20 disposals in a terrific display against the Demons.

He said he was thrilled to break through at senior level and has set his sights on cementing his spot in the side.

“I loved playing in the AFL, I just want to keep playing my role for the team and hopefully get a couple of wins,” Mutch said.

Mutch said he still pinches himself sometimes as he continues to forge his career at the club he loves.

“I grew up barracking for Essendon, so to join the club that I barracked for as a kid is truly a dream come true.”

Athletic defender Ridley’s short career to date has been regularly interrupted by untimely injuries, but he says they have been a blessing in disguise and is confident he can break through for his debut soon.

“Obviously it’s a really good sign that the club’s got a bit of confidence in me, so hopefully that can translate to some good footy for the rest of this year and the next couple of years,” Ridley said.

“I’ve really enjoyed my time at the club here so far. Everyone’s been really welcoming, it’s a really good vibe around the club, so I’m really, really happy that I’ve re-signed.

“Obviously the other two boys have had a really good start to their AFL careers, so hopefully soon I can follow in their footsteps.”

All three great mates said they were thrilled to re-sign together and continue on their AFL journey side by side.

“We’ve come to the club together, we’re a tight group, so to sign on with these fellas is great,” Mutch said.
