Essendon honoured Australia’s servicemen and women with a special ANZAC Day service on Thursday.

All staff attended the commemorative service, with Bombers legend Jack Jones returning to the club to speak at the event.

Jones served in Papua New Guinea and Bougainville in World War II and described his journey through the war in an inspirational speech.

Following his return from the war, Jones was recruited by Essendon and went on to play 175 games in the red and black in which he played in seven grand finals for three premierships.

In that time at the club Jones played alongside some of Essendon’s best players including Dick Reynolds, John Coleman and Bill Hutchison.

Victorian RSL Manager of Appeals and Membership, Peter Smith OAM, also presented to the club emphasising the bravery and sacrifice of our veterans.
