The Tiwi Bombers Football Club is pleased to announce Leigh Crossman has been appointed its new General Manager.

Crossman will bring a wealth of experience to the Tiwi Bombers in football, business and education.

Having previously lived, worked and coached on Tiwi, he is well connected and highly respected within the local community.

Crossman said he is thrilled to be joining the Bombers.

“To be able to work with the Tiwi people again in this space was an opportunity I couldn’t pass up,” Crossman said.

“The club’s win and losses aren’t just on the football field, they’re off it as well – education, employment is just as important – we want to establish wins and sustainability into the future there as well.  Our off-field team is just as important as our on-field teams.

“We have a really exciting list of players right across the club - women & men, seniors and juniors, we have excellent coaches led by Brenton Toy – it’s exciting.”

The role will manage the delivery of football operations across all the club’s teams, establish sustainable off field processes and work closely with the local community to deliver these.

The Tiwi Bombers board made the appointment through the support of Essendon Football Club.

Essendon CEO Xavier Campbell said Crossman is a great addition to the club.

“The board’s decision to appoint someone of Leigh’s calibre will provide the off-field stability to take the club into the future,” Campbell said.

“It’s exciting to create this position as part of a range of initiatives that we are working on with our education partner RMIT to benefit football more broadly in the Tiwi community”

RMIT Vice-Chancellor and President Martin Bean CBE said the partnership between RMIT and Essendon Football Club was born out of a deeply shared commitment to the community.

“I am excited to see the positive impact that Leigh will have with the Tiwi Bombers and the wider Tiwi Island community,” he said.

“With a combined vision to make a real difference through sport and education, we recognise that together we can achieve so much more.”

Tiwi Bombers Chairman Gawin Tipiloura said he was excited for Crossman to join the Bombers.

“Leigh provides the off-field support our club needs moving forward and will complement the on-field strengths that all our teams bring each week led by our senior coach Brenton,” Tipiloura said.

“The backing of Essendon and RMIT is welcomed and together with the continued support the club and Tiwi football receives from AFLNT the future is really exciting.”

Crossman will commence in the position on September 3.
