Essendon’s latest addition to its key-position stocks Noah Gown says leaning on star teammate Joe Daniher will be “crucial” for his development.
The 194cm Gippsland Power product used his power to great advantage this year and said working with his fellow tall forward will provide a huge opportunity to take his game to the next level.
“I play forward so I like to lead out of the goal square and I think my marking is a bit of a strong point,” Gown said on Monday.
“And also … I like to use my size in marking contests. I think if I can get under (Daniher’s) wing it will be pretty crucial for my development.”
Gown had a steady start to the TAC Cup season this year, but after settling down to find a clear role in the forward line he begun to dominate his opposition.

In the final 14 games of the year, Gown booted 31 goals and was listed among the side’s best players on 13 occasions, showing remarkable consistency.
“I think all players out there try to pride themselves on consistency,” he said.
“Once I started to find my feet later in the year I thought I played some consistent football, which was good and that ended up helping me get here to where I am.”
The 18-year-old has played basketball at a high level and turned down a scholarship to play the sport in the United States to instead focus on achieving his footballing dreams, and he said that experience had allowed him to apply certain skills across the codes.
“I think most of the qualities cross over, (such as) my hand-eye coordination and balance and stuff like that, so it definitely has helped.”
Gown said having Power teammate Irving Mosquito by his side at The Hangar had helped him settle into the club in his first two days with the Bombers.

He has also joined fellow draftee Brayden Ham for a brief stay with the club’s most experienced player David Zaharakis, another senior Bomber whose brain he hopes to pick.
“(I’m) currently living with Zacka at the moment for a few nights, so he’s been a bit of a mentor to me and Hammy, so it’s been good.
“I think a player like that is of pretty high quality, so I think everyone looks up to players like that.
“Especially living with him as well, it’s been really great.”
