Jake Stringer is set to face his old side on Sunday and his teammates and coach say Bombers fans can expect him to fire.

Essendon ruckman Tom Bellchambers said the new Bomber wouldn’t let the clash against his former teammates from the Western Bulldogs distract him.

“I spoke to him yesterday, he said he hadn’t thought about it too much,” Bellchambers told SEN on Thursday morning.

“I reckon come game time he will pretty wound up, Jakey – I know what he is like.

“He had a quiet game on the weekend, so he will be looking to get out there and show the Dogs what they’re missing out on.”

Stringer impressed in his Bombers debut against Adelaide in round one before gathering nine disposals against Fremantle last week, and Bellchambers said the club was still finding the perfect balance for Stringer.

“We are still trying to utilise how we get the best out of Jakey on the ground,” he said.

“It’s only two weeks into the season, so that’s going to be a bit of a process.”

“He was good in round one, a bit quieter last week, so we are hopeful he can have a great output on Sunday.”

Essendon coach John Worsfold said Stringer had been “relaxed” this week and was expecting consistent improvement from the recruit as he adjusts to his new role with the Bombers.

“I think Jake’s going ok, we’re really pleased with his attitude and how he’s embracing learning the way we want to play and his role,” Worsfold said.

“I reckon we’re going to see improvement week in, week out over a long period of time from Jake.

“He’s going to do some spectacular stuff at times because that’s the type of player he is, but we want him to just play his role and do the basics consistently for us and be part of the way our team wants to play.”

Worsfold said he expects his side to bounce back on Sunday and is comfortable with the way the team will line up against an undermanned Bulldogs outfit.

“As a team, we were pretty disappointed last week and we didn’t play at the level we want to play and we want to be united in the way we play this week and Jake’s part of what we want to achieve.

“We’ve got an idea of the way we want to play and the way we want to structure up and we believe that will work against any team in the comp if we play with the intensity we’re looking for.”
