Essendon Football Club has made a final change to its list, ahead of the upcoming NAB AFL National Draft.
Matt Dea has been advised he will not be offered a playing contract in 2019.
Dea began his career at Richmond where he played 31 games before being recruited to Essendon in 2016. The defender played 39 games in the red and black during his three seasons at the Club.
GM Football, Dan Richardson, thanked Dea for his contribution to the Bombers throughout his time at The Hangar
“Matt is a quality person and is the ultimate professional, both on and off the field.” Richardson said.
“Even while he was trying to cement his spot in the team, he was prepared to support the younger guys that were looking for the senior opportunity as well, which speaks volumes of his character.
“This time of year is never easy and unfortunately after discussions with Matt, we were unable to offer him a contract.
“On behalf of the Club, I want to thank Matt for his hard work and efforts during his time at The Hangar and wish him all the best with his future endeavours.”
The Club has now made the following changes to its list since the conclusion of the 2018 season:
Delisted: Brendon Goddard, Jackson Merrett, Josh Green and Matt Dea
Traded: Travis Colyer
Retired: Matthew Leuenberger
Recruited: Dylan Shiel
