YOUNG BOMBERS CONTINUE TO IMPRESS
The Essendon VFL side has turned in another solid performance defeating the Western Bulldogs by 41-points, today at Whitten Oval. It was an impressive team performance and Essendon coach Terry Daniher singled out rookies Marcus Kenny and Adam Winter who both played solid games. ""It was a good team effort out there today. The team tried hard all day and the final result highlights this,"" Terry Daniher said after the match. Regular senior players Justin Blumfield and Mark McVeigh also were key contributors - playing four good quarters. The pair will be pushing for senior selection next week.

In ideal playing conditions, the Essendon side led all day. 2001 draftees Andrew Welsh and Joel Reynolds continued to impress - playing at both ends of the ground. Similar to last week, coach Terry Daniher rotated the players through different positions. ""At this early stage of the season it is important to move the players around and have a look at them. It helps them develop their game and assists the coaching panel decide where we want to play them. We were highly competitive today and that is what we are aiming for. It was a young team and they played committed football,"" Daniher said. Final score - Essendon 15.7 (97) d Western Bulldogs 9.10 (56).

In our continuing Engine Room series we look at the senior listed players and pin-point their roles in the upcoming season. Today we take a look at SEAN WELLMAN. Wellman was one of the stars for the bombers in 2001. Spending much of the season as a running half back he performed brilliantly and was ultimately rewarded with All-Australian selection. But it is team success he is looking for and he will be pushing those around him to greater heights in 2002.
