Essendon CEO Xavier Campbell has lauded the club’s passionate fans for getting behind the Bombers in droves once again in 2019.
The league reached an all-time attendance record of 6,951,304 fans in the home and away season, with Essendon taking part in three of the four most attended games in 2019.
The Dons’ Anzac Day clash with Collingwood took top spot with 92,241 fans witnessing a thrilling edition of the annual blockbuster.
Last week’s rematch between the sides (85,405 fans) was second, while the Dreamtime at the ‘G match in round 10 against Richmond (80,176) claiming fourth spot.
The Bombers played just four home games at the MCG compared to seven at the lower-capacity Marvel Stadium, but the club still finished fourth in the league for average attendance with an average of 47,732 people watching the Dons in person each week.
“This is a tremendous result for our football club to sit fourth overall across the industry for average attendances in 2019,” Campbell said.
“Along with six other clubs, we have increased our attendance numbers year on year. And in breaking down the data, it is incredibly pleasing to see Essendon featuring in three of the top four games for attendance this season alone.”

Campbell also praised Essendon’s record-breaking membership base for their ongoing support and commitment to the club ahead of the senior side’s upcoming final campaign.
“This type of support has been pivotal with our club’s drive to play finals football this season, and like our members, we are excited to face West Coast at Optus Stadium in the first elimination final next week.
“Along with our record-breaking figure of 84,237 members in 2019, we remain incredibly grateful to our loyal and dedicated members and fans for their continued support across the country.”
The Bombers will kick off the finals against the Eagles in Perth from 8:10pm (AEST) on Thursday, September 5.
