The 22-year-old, who’s enjoying a remarkable 2018/19 campaign with the Philadelphia 76ers in just his second season, currently sits fourth among Eastern Conference guards after the second release of fan-vote figures last week, with only the top-two finishers automatically selected.
Born and bred in Melbourne, Simmons has made no secret of his long-standing love for Essendon.
A talented junior footballer, he quit footy to pursue his NBA dream, taking the league by storm in his debut season to claim the 2017/18 Rookie of the Year award.
In a recent tweet that had the Essendon faithful in raptures, however, the star NBA playmaker hinted at playing a season for his beloved Bombers “before it’s all done”.
