Essendon Football Club has welcomed the appointment of executive director and CEO of Scentre Group Peter Allen to the board.

Prior to the establishment of Scentre Group in 2014, Peter was an executive director and CFO of Westfield Group. Peter joined Westfield in 1996 and between 1998 and 2004 was Westfield’s CEO of the United Kingdom and Europe and responsible for establishing Westfield’s presence in the United Kingdom.

He is chairman of the Shopping Centre Council of Australia, and director of the Victor Chang Cardiac Research Institute. A member of the President’s Council of the Art Gallery of NSW, Allen is also a member of the Property Council of Australia inclusive of his role as Property Male Champion of Change.

Allen was unanimously endorsed by the Essendon board and has been appointed as a nominated director.

The lifelong Essendon supporter said he was thrilled to be joining the club’s board of directors.

"I am honoured to be joining the board, having supported the Mighty Bombers since I was a young boy,” Allen said.

“I look forward to bringing my diverse commercial, industry and community experience to the Club and supporting its continued success."

Essendon president Lindsay Tanner said Allen’s vast commercial acumen and entrepreneurial experience would be an asset to the club’s board.

“We are delighted to welcome Peter to the board of the Essendon Football Club, this is a significant appointment which the board unanimously endorsed,” Tanner said.

“With his global business acumen and passion to drive the Essendon Football Club forward, Peter is well positioned to contribute to the club in a very meaningful way.

“We have an experienced and diverse board of directors who are collectively aligned and determined to lead this club toward sustained success over the coming years.”
