Essendon Football Club has honoured one of its most loyal supporters with the unveiling of ‘The Heymanson Players Lounge’.

Bruce Heymanson was a Life Member, Number One Ticket Holder and member of the Hall of Fame.

He was also a Board member, Life Member and Chairman of the Dick Reynolds Club, Life Member of the Essendonians, Life Member of the Past Players and Officials Association and founder of the First XVIII and Red and Blacks coterie group.

Heymanson died in 2013 aged 72 after battling cancer.

“He had a great heart and a magnificent soul.  He was always trying to help other people,” Kevin Sheedy said.

“We’ve had great people through this club and they’re as great as any player.

“It’s not just about footballers that play well, it’s about great people.

“That’s why we are a great club.  I know we’re going through a difficult time now, but this will be a passing phase.

“In the end this club is more than 140 years old, has 16 premierships and is one of the great sporting organisations in the nation.

“It’s people like Bruce and his family that have created that.”
