Dustin Fletcher – 400 games

He arrived at the club as a skinny schoolboy and went on to become one of the game’s best defenders.

Few have endured the initiation Fletcher had to undergo.  In those early seasons Fletcher lined up of Gary Ablett Snr one week, then Tony Lockett, then Jason Dunstall, then Tony Modra and so on.  It was the game’s greatest era of full-forwards and Fletcher was charged with stopping them.  He did so with aplomb.

By 2000, Fletcher was a vital component of the Essendon side.  He won the Club Best and Fairest in its most dominant year and added another premiership medal to the one he earned in 1993.

The two-time All-Australian has seemingly retained his pace throughout his career.  His long arms and mobility have curtailed many an opponent and his long, precise kicking has ignited many attacking waves.

Later in his career, Fletcher has nurtured fellow key defenders Cale Hooker and Michael Hurley.  Hooker was named in the All-Australian side last season and Hurley is on track for selection this year.

Fletcher played his 400th game against Richmond in the Dreamtime at the G’ clash.  He became just the third man in AFL/VFL history to reach 400 games behind Michael Tuck (427) and Kevin Barlett (403).

Brendon Goddard – 250 games

Selected by St Kilda with the number one selection in the 2002 National Draft, Goddard was central to the Saints sustained success throughout the first decade of the 21st century.

He played 205 games with St Kilda and represented the club in three grand finals.

Goddard joined the Bombers as a free agent for the 2013 season.  He has since played 53 games with the club.

The Gippsland native is fine example of the modern day footballer – equally adept in the forward line, defence and midfield.

Goddard has been and continues to be an excellent leader for the club.  He brought up his 250th game milestone in the Dons 21 point win over Carlton in round three.
