Following his breakthrough 2014 season young defender Marty Gleeson has set his sights on becoming a regular selection in the senior side this season.
Gleeson burst onto the scene with a round one debut before going on to play nine matches including the club’s elimination final loss to North Melbourne.
The 20-year-old has shown an ability to make smart decisions under pressure as well as add pace out of the Bombers defence.
The 186cm defender said all his dreams and aspirations came true during the 2014 season.
“It was a very exciting year for myself and my family,” Gleeson said.
“At the start of the year I was hoping to play a couple of games but then when I got a taste for it to go on and play nine games was very exciting.
“To be a part of the finals, it was disappointing to lose but provides a good motivation going into this year.”
Looking at home when given the opportunity in the club’s defensive group, the youngster from North Ballarat is looking ahead to becoming a permanent member of the senior side in 2015.
“I obviously want to build on last year, for myself I need to get a bigger body to be able to cope with 22 home and away games as well as finals,” he said.
“That is a goal for myself to get a bigger, stronger body but also to keep working on my craft.
“I need to work on my defensive craft, my tackling and all those other little areas that if I build up will help me become a better player.”
Gleeson recently signed a new two-year deal to remain in the red and black until the end of the 2016 season.
“I love the club and love all the players as they are a good bunch of blokes,” he said.
“To be out here at the True Value Solar Centre is awesome, they are the best facilities in the league with a great coaching group and great staff.
“I wouldn’t want to be anywhere else.”
