Essendon have locked in another five players for the 2025 AFLW season, with Matilda Dyke, Alex Morcom, Amelia Radford, Brooke Walker and Brooke Sheridan all signing one-year extensions.
The fresh deals see the quintet stay on board for next season after strong campaigns from each in a variety of different roles.
Morcom and Radford were Dons who elevated their output this season, improving in most major statistical categories.
Floating between the back six and often utilised as a defensive/’run-with’ midfielder, Morcom averaged 10 touches per game and booted the first two goals of her career this year, taking home the club’s Most Courageous Player Award.
Radford averaged 15 touches per game as a versatile midfield option for the side this year, capable as both a stoppage performer and winger at different stages.
The 29-year-old’s career-high 22 touches in round seven was integral in continuing te Dons’ winning streak throughout the midweek footy period.
Walker continued her consistency in 2024, another Bomber who played in every game for the season.
The strong-tackling midfielder was at her best in the middle point of the season with back-to-back 20-plus disposal outings in wins over Melbourne and Sydney, with her inside presence a key factor.
Dyke featured in five games for the Bombers this year, often providing range for the side from her ability to roam the ground.
With Steph Wales out through injury, Dyke fought strongly as a relief ruck alongside Sophie Alexander in the club’s finals defeat to Fremantle, finishing with 18 hit-outs on the day.
Joining the club as a replacement player for Cat Phillips last season, Sheridan is yet to appear at senior level but provides an important deal of flexibility for Essendon’s forward depth.
AFLW List and Recruiting Manager Georgia Harvey highlighted the importance of having a further five Dons secured for next season.
“It’s a fantastic result to have these five players re-sign with the Club for the 2025 season,” Harvey said.
“In different stages and positions, each of those five players have contributed very strongly and bought into the ‘squad’ mentality the group prides itself on.
“The drive and desire from these players to continuously improve and develop is exciting and we look forward to getting stuck into a big pre-season in 2025.”
