Amy Gaylor's debut season reaches another milestone this Saturday.
The 19-year-old is set to line up for the first final of her career when the Dons face Freo with elimination on the line, continuing what's been an immensely promising start to AFLW life from the teenager.
Fresh off a week where the Rising Star nominee was named in the 22under22 squad alongside fellow Dons talent Stephanie Wales, the opportunity to don the sash in a do-or-die clash marks a momentous occasion in her first year at the club, credit to her high standards and the support of her teammates.
"It’s been a pretty exciting week," Gaylor said.
"Coming from the start of the season, not really having any expectations about the season I was going to have, to now be playing a final in my first year is pretty incredible. I have surprised myself, but it’s also testament to the work I did in pre-season.
"I thought coming into the AFLW I’d come into my shell a bit, but I feel like now I’m playing with the most confidence I ever have because the whole club around me has that belief in me too."
Gaylor's energy along with the experience of some of her older teammates will be important come Saturday, when the Dons look to go one better from their first taste of finals action last season.
The final two weeks of the home-and-away season saw plenty of pressure weighed on the Bombers, who overcame injury concerns on the way to recording the required results that locked away their finals place.
For Gaylor and the wider squad, it's been all about backing up their own values on a week-to-week basis, which won't change heading into the finals series.
"It’s almost like we’ve already started our finals campaign," Gaylor said.
"Coming into the Carlton game, it wasn’t something that was highly spoken on. In the back of our minds, we all knew it was a do-or-die game but we just stayed focusing on our process and our purpose and that’s what we’re going to do this week."
