Finals spot secured.
AFLW Assistant/Midfield Coach Paul Groves reviews the Bombers' big round 10 win over the Blues and the excitement ahead of their second consecutive finals appearance.
On the vibe in the rooms post-game:
There’s a fair buzz in the rooms at the moment.
Obviously, securing that finals spot, we just need to wait and see who we play now but (there’s) a lot of pride from the coaching group towards the playing group and just sticking at it, getting through tonight.
On the message to bounce back at quarter-time:
It was all based around the pressure and us increasing that.
We just felt we were beaten at stoppages a little bit and around the clearances, so we went back to work there at the first possession and got back on top.
I thought the response was really good after quarter-time, we started to get some ascendancy and forward half pressure, we managed to get a few on the board.
On team flexibility in Bonnie Toogood's injury absence:
We’ve got some real flexibility in the team.
Matilda Dyke came in and rucked with Steph Wales going down last week and she gives us a really different look and the flexibility to do a few other things as well.
When ‘Bon’ went down, it meant we shuffled the magnets a little bit to cater for that and Amy Gaylor sort of floats into the wing, I get her back as a midfielder which is a pleasure to have.
There wasn’t too much interruption to our setups from that.
On Maddi Gay's stellar form:
We do want 'Mads' with the ball in hand, for her to intercept, using her kick.
She’s just got some continuity with her body and she’s playing some really exciting attacking footy, which is what we want off the back half.
We’re getting better at utilising her with the footy, that’s hugely important for the way we want to play.
On the build into next week:
It’s an 18-to-20-hour wait until we know who we’re playing, but the message for the group is just to recover really well.
We know that we’ve secured a game next week and a cut-throat game at that, so get the icepacks on and do everything correct, get back in Monday and we can set a plan, come out firing.
Get fired up for next week, look forward to a final.
