Ahead of the 2024 AFLW Pride Round, Essendon has unveiled its AFLW Pride guernsey, designed in collaboration with the Club’s official diversity and inclusion supporter group, the Purple Bombers.
Designed by Purple Bombers President Tess Gilfedder, the guernsey will be worn by the Bombers during their Week Seven game against the Western Bulldogs.
This year’s design features silhouettes of people hand in hand, using colours from the progress pride flag to represent the diversity and unity of the LGBTQIA+ community.

2024 marks the third consecutive year of the Bombers donning a unique Pride guernsey in the AFLW competition, continuing the club’s commitment to creating a safe and inclusive environment for all involved.
Gilfedder’s proud of the contributions to this year’s guernsey design and is excited to see it in action on gameday.
“We can’t wait to see the Bombers in this year’s Pride guernsey,” Gilfedder said.
“Pride round is a great opportunity for the AFLW to show our LGBTQIA+ community that they are welcome at the footy. This visibility is important and shows that their club sees who they are and celebrates their identity.
“The Essendon AFLW program have been very supportive of our work and we commend them for their commitment to pride and diversity. When we stand together, backed by our allies, we can fight discrimination and create a safe and inclusive space for all.
“It sends a message to the wider football community that homophobia has no place in footy or in society in general.”
The Dons will debut this year’s Pride guernsey when they take on the Bulldogs on Friday, October 11 at Whitten Oval from 7:15pm.
