Essendon Captain Zach Merrett has been crowned the 2024 Liberty Player of the Year.

After claiming nominations in rounds one-to-four and five-to-eight and 21-24, the three-time nominated skipper was a clear choice for the top gong.

The 28-year-old was at his illustrious best, claiming an All-Australian squad nomination thanks to his average of 28.3 disposals, 7.1 score involvements, 5.0 tackles and 4.3 clearances per game.

Merrett also hit the scoreboard 11 times this season to kick a career-high 14 goals.

Merrett becomes the second player to win the Liberty Player of the Year Award after Kyle Langford's inaugural win in 2023.

Special mentions must be made to midfielder Jye Caldwell and utility Nic Martin for their nominations throughout this season.
