The Bendigo Bombers returned to the training track at Windy Hill last night, with a number of the players taking part in a pre-season time trial.

First year Bendigo coach Hayden Skipworth said he was impressed with the overall physical state of the younger players, who took part in their first session for the year.

“Overall, we were pleased with the way the boys came back from the break. They all turned up in good shape and were ready to hit the track,” Skipworth said.

“The boys took part in a time trial with specific goals to meet and most of the players achieved that.”

Skipworth said the addition of the club’s newest recruits would strengthen the Bendigo side in the upcoming VFL season.

“We had the chance to look at the talent at the recent Gold Coast camp and we were excited by what we saw,” he said.

“We are working well with the younger boys in terms of their development and they are settling in really well at the club.

“The boys will get the opportunity to showcase their talents over the next few months in the lead up to the season.”

Skipworth also highlighted the off-season additions to the development coaching panel in James Byrne and Rick Ladson.

“They have both brought fresh ideas to where we plan to take the side this season,” Skipworth said.

“Rick has come from Hawthorn and is straight out of the system, while James has been a part of Adelaide, Sydney and Geelong – as VFL captain.

“Now it is all about sitting down and working out together how we are best going to implement these ideas into our development program.”
