In a second AFLW season with major positives for Essendon, the team’s return to Windy Hill still served as their seminal moment.
The Bombers were quick to establish a home ground advantage at ‘the Hill’ in hosting its first competitive AFL-level game since 1991, bringing high-voltage footy back to Napier Street and earning a 3-1 record at the ground for the season.
This Saturday, the side has an opportunity to write another chapter in the venue’s storied history when they host their first ever round one clash at Windy Hill, taking on Fremantle to kick off the 2024 AFLW season.
The Dons will be looking for a repeat of the result from the last time these two teams squared off in round four last year – a scintillating second half of footy saw the home side down the Dockers by 20 points that day.
Bomber fans will also be keen for another glimpse of Co-Skipper Bonnie Toogood off the back of her career-best campaign in 2023 – the 26-year-old was a dominant force in that corresponding fixture with 21 disposals and two goals.
Led by experienced mainstays in Toogood and recent leadership group addition Sophie Alexander, the Bombers’ 32-point destruction of Carlton was another highlight from last season’s slew of fixtures.
Essendon will be hoping they can bring their fast-paced, aggressive style of footy to the table in the opening stanza of 2024.
Secure your tickets for Saturday as we look to ‘Fill the Hill’ once again this season.
