Essendon wishes to advise former player Jason Winderlich sustained a serious neck injury playing for Thorpdale in the Mid Gippsland FNL on Saturday afternoon.
Winderlich was flown to the Alfred Hospital in Melbourne following the incident, where he has since undergone surgery and is now currently recovering.
“The club extends its deep wishes and thoughts to Jason and his family,” President David Barham said.
“The Club has been in regular contact with the Winderlich’s to support and assist Jason in any way possible.
“Jason has always been a valued member of the Essendon family, and we are committed to providing him with all the support he needs during this challenging time. Our thoughts remain with him and his family as they navigate this difficult period.
A one-club player at AFL level, Winderlich played 144 games for the Bombers between 2003-’15, booting 83 career goals.
The Winderlich family thanks the AFL community for their messages and support during this time and request privacy as Jason focuses on his recovery going forward.
