Jye Menzie has signed a one-year deal to remain at Essendon until at least the end of the 2025 season.

The 21-year-old joins fellow rookie Vigo Visentini this week in committing to the club for next year.

Having penned a one-year extension at the end of last season, Menzie’s excited to commit once more and continue his development within Essendon’s budding young core of players.

“I'm so grateful to be signing on for this great club. I'm excited and optimistic about the direction we are going, and I'm thrilled to be a part of this journey we are on,” Menzie said.

“I love the playing group and the ceiling hasn't even been scratched yet with what we can achieve together. I'd also like to thank the coaches and staff for backing me in and giving me this opportunity.

“I still have the same drive and passion as I did the night I was drafted and can't wait for what's to come individually and as a collective.”

Since joining the club via pick No.15 in the 2022 Mid-Season Draft, Menzie has played a total of 32 games and shown his craft as a small forward, particularly in the 2023 season where he booted 23 goals from 21 games to finish second in the club’s goalkicking.

As part of Senior Coach Brad Scott’s push for individual flexibility on-field, Menzie’s spent 2024 in a multitude of positions, deployed on the wing and half back to good effect in the King’s Birthday Eve clash against Carlton where he recorded a career-high 20 disposals.

Menzie has featured in nine games at AFL level this season, with his growing versatility and class in his game becoming apparent through both solid VFL form (eight goals from five games predominantly on the wing) and his willingness to adapt to different roles when called upon.

General Manager – AFL Daniel McPherson said Menzie’s developed greatly since joining the Bombers.

“Since arriving at the club in 2022, Jye has demonstrated his determination and willingness to grow as a footballer and take his game to the next level,” McPherson said.

“Jye has continuously taken feedback on board and has embraced any challenge given to him. We look forward to seeing his growth continue into 2025.”
