Happy 21st Fletch!
Essendon fans are urged to get to the MCG on Saturday night to help celebrate Dustin Fletcher's 21st season in the AFL when the Bombers take on the Demons.
The 37-year old veteran will be celebrating his 21st year in the game since making his debut against Carlton at the 'G in 1993.
It has been a remarkable career from Fletch who has become a fan favourite for his inspector gadget style spoils and long barrels out of defence.
Fletcher will play his 367th match on Saturday night taking him to outright 6th on the all time games record list ahead of Bernie Quinlan on 366.
He becomes just the second player in VFL/AFL history to play 21 seasons at the top level joining St Kilda great Robert Harvey in that club.
The defender is this season three years older than the next player on any AFL list, there has not been such an age gap since 1938 .
Watch above the first of 21 Dustin Fletcher moments which will be counted down during the club's television show The Hangar during the season.
In the first moment Fletcher looks back on his first season in 1993 when he elected to play for his school side at Essendon Grammar ahead of playing in the seniors for Essendon.
"I'd been at Essendon Grammar since 1986 so I had quiet a lot of friends I had played footy with and I didn't expect to be playing senior football in 1993," Fletcher remembers.
"When the choice came to go back and play school footy and help my mates out and maybe win a flag if I didn't do it I felt like I was going to let them down."
Make sure you get to the MCG this Saturday night to join the Fletcher 21st celebrations and cheer on our champion defender Dustin Fletcher in his first Melbourne match in his record breaking season.
