Essendon vice captain Sean Wellman believes his side is playing the right brand of football at the right time of the season to do some damage in the finals. ""I definitely think we've got some good weeks of football in front of us, we just obviously now have to keep winning,” Wellman said earlier today. Essendon will launch its finals campaign on Friday evening against Fremantle in a knock-out final.

Despite losing to Collingwood last Friday night, the Bombers will carry good form into the first Elimination Final. Essendon has won eight of its past 10 games and Wellman attributes the improvement in form to get a stable side on the park each week. ""Because we've had such a turnover of players in the last two or three years, it's taken us a while to gel as a team. If you look at our second half of the season, the reason it's been so good is because we've played so well as a team.

""We've had new guys coming into the team who know their role. The whole team is a lot fresher, so we're almost winding up into a finals series rather than winding down, which we probably have in previous years,” the premiership player said.

Wellman is amongst the group of players that will travel to Perth this evening. With his recent hamstring injury, he said he preferred to travel in the earlier group to give him as much time as possible to get over the flight and prepare for the match. Both Wellman and Dustin Fletcher missed the Round 21 match against Fremantle and will be welcome inclusions into the backline.
