Essendon has paid special tribute to its all-time games record holder, Dustin Fletcher in front of more than 1,300 teammates, coaches and supporters at the Crichton Medal.

The 40 year old announced his retirement ahead of Essendon’s final home and away game of the season against Collingwood.

“I know it hasn’t been best year but we’ve got some special people at the club and it will be great to watch them over the coming years,” Fletcher said.

Fletcher played 400 games throughout his 23-season career with the Club.

During the 90’s he lined up on some of the best power forwards in the game including Gary Ablett, Jason Dunstall, Tony Lockett, Wayne Carey and Tony Modra.

Fletcher played in two premierships, won a Best and Fairest and was named in the Al-Australian side on two occasions.

He also has the honour of being the most watched man in AFL history.

“To have your support over my journey, a very long journey has meant a lot,” Fletcher said.

“The footy club has been everything to me.

“I loved every minute of it.”
