DONS OVERCOME PIES AFTER STRUGGLE
Essendon has finished the home and away season with 21 wins from 22 starts - a new AFL record - after defeating Collingwood by 19 points at the MCG. The Bombers actually trailed the Magpies by 19 points early in the third term and looked pretty sluggish, but got themselves into gear to sneak in front at the last change, and hold on in the finish. Joe Misiti played a huge game in the midfield, and – crucially – the Dons got through the match injury-free. Attention will now turn to fine-tuning before next week’s Qualifying Final, which will be against either Melbourne or the Kangaroos.
