Popular Bomber.tv panel show Weekend Rewind returned this week with assistant coach, Ashley Prescott coming on-board as co-host.

Prescott says Round 1 was certainly a disappointing start to the season after putting in so much work into the game and pre-season preparation.

“We were reasonably competitive early and to only really win one quarter, which was the third, was particularly disappointing but it is only Round 1 and we are very confident we can get the team up and running going forward,"" he said.

“Our inability to string goals together and giving to many soft goals to Port Adelaide cost us in the end. Certainly our fitness and run in the third quarter was good, I think that was related to us taking a lot more risk with our ball movement.”

In an exciting addition to the show, Prescott will answer fans' questions. Some questions this week included concerns regarding the forward line structure and the development of Paddy Ryder as a ruckman.

Like most supporters, Prescott had plenty of praise for debutant bomber Michael Hurley, saying that his performance really impressed the coaching staff and it was one of the positives that they could take from the match.

“He was tremendous, what we love about Michael is his ability to come off his direct opponent and help his teammates, that’s the sort of culture and attitude all our players need to have,” he said.

Another positive was matured aged player, Hayden Skipworth, debut in the red and black.

Prescott believes that Hayden has the character and qualities that the club needs right now.

“Hayden’s been tremendous, not only his own performance but also by bringing on a lot of the younger players too. He’s a great person and a great acquisition to the club,” he said.

Jobe Watson was one of Essendon’s stand out players on the weekend and Prescott thinks the club is just starting to get the best out of him.

Watson, who was cleaned up early in the game, came back on to play some great footy, Prescott believes that this could be the year that Jobe makes the transition to becoming an elite midfielder.

“Jobe showed a lot of character to dust himself off, to get rid of all that blood and go again. If we had more players prepared to play with Jobe’s intensity, over four quarters, not just in bursts we’d be a better side,” he said.
