Essendon trio Zach Merrett, Kyle Langford, and Mason Redman have all been named in the All Australian squad of 44 for the 2023 season.
Merrett’s nod comes after an outstanding first campaign as skipper that saw him average 29 disposals per game at the head of the Bombers’ midfield brigade, with the 27-year-old now a chance to potentially add a third All Australian blazer to his name come Wednesday night.
Langford receives his first squad nod after becoming a revelation at full-forward for the Bombers this season, booting 51 goals and handing out 20 goal assists despite initially spending time training with the defensive group ahead of the season.
Redman continued his consistent patch with another solid season from the back half, averaging 22 disposals and 473 metres gained over the course of a season in which he and Langford both played every game.
Langford and Redman will be in the running to make their first-ever All Australian teams, with Merrett previously honoured in 2017 and 2021.
The final team of 22 players will be announced this Wednesday, August 30 at the annual AFL Awards night.
