Essendon Football Club has inducted 10 new life members at its AGM on Monday night.

 

LIFE MEMBERSHIP INDUCTEES

 

Jo-Anne Albert – 20+ years as a volunteer

Albert is a founding member of the Essendon Women’s Network and a member of the Dick Reynolds Club. Albert’s commitment to the club’s players has been paramount having sponsored many different players including Dustin Fletcher for his entire career. Albert also served two terms as a member of the Board of Directors.

 

Susie Norton – 20+ years as a volunteer

Norton was the founding member of the Dick Reynolds Club in 1996. During her time in this role she has been involved in raising funds for the EFC Past Players and Officials Association (in which she is now a member) through regular events and functions run by the DRC. Norton is also an active participant in the Essendon Women’s Network.

 

Alan Burton – 20 years’ service as an employee

Starting at Essendon Football Club in 1994, Burton has been a key figure in the club’s progress in the 21st century. Assisting on VFL match days and overseeing Windy Hill Venue and Melton Country Club, Burton continues to play a major role at the Bombers the General Manager of Venues.

 

Angus Monfries – 150 games

Monfries played 150 matches for the Bombers from 2005 to 2012 before joining Port Adelaide and playing another 61 AFL games. Monfries booted 165 goals for Essendon and was a constant threat in attack during his eight seasons at the club, including a brilliant season in 2010 when he led the club for goals.

 

Patrick Ryder – 150 games

Ryder was a crucial part of the Essendon line-up in his nine-year stint at the club before moving across the border to play for Port Adelaide. Ryder played 170 senior games in the red and black and displayed his versatility by playing forward and back outside of his regular spot in the ruck.

 

Heath Hocking – 10 years’ service

Hocking was a stalwart of Essendon, playing 126 games before finishing his career at the club this year in his 10th season with the Bombers. Hocking has now been signed up to play for the Essendon VFL side to continue to help the development of his old and new teammates.

 

Cale Hooker – 150 games and 10 years’ service

Hooker has been an outstanding player at Essendon, scoring an All-Australian selection in 2014 as a defender before displaying his versatility in recent seasons. In his first year as a full-time forward this season Hooker booted 41 goals and helped free up other players such as Joe Daniher to become a part of one of the most potent attacking groups in the league.

 

David Myers – 10 years’ service

After being picked up with pick six in the 2007 national draft, Myers has developed into a powerful inside midfielder for the Bombers. The injury-ravaged midfielder deservedly played his 100th game this season in what was just the fourth occasion he had played more than 10 matches in a single year.

 

Tom Bellchambers – 10 years’ service

Bellchambers battled to break into the senior side early in his career as a developing ruckman, but confirmed this year that he has a rightful place in the team. The big Tasmanian solidified his spot after returning from injury to play 14 matches and take his career tally to 93 games.

 

David Zaharakis – 150 games

After making an immediate impact with 10 games in his opening season in 2009, Zaharakis hasn’t looked back. Zaharakis has played 170 matches and kicked over 100 goals for The Bombers. A Crichton Medal winner in just his third season, Zaharakis is a mainstay of the midfield and still has plenty of football ahead of him.
