Alex Boyse has been recognised for finishing as Essendon VFL’s leading goal kicker in 2017.
The agile forward was honoured at the VFL side’s Best and Fairest on Wednesday.
He kicked 31 goals this season, which was also enough for him to finish eighth Frosty Miller medal for the competition’s leading goal kicker.
Boyse’s best appearance in front of goal came in the Dreamtime game against Richmond, where he booted five majors.
This is Boyse’s second season with the Essendon. In 2016 he only played a handful of games but this year he has been a regular in the Dons line-up, playing in 16 out of 19 games.
Performance Coach, Mark Corrigan praised Boyse’s for his efforts not only in front of goal, but across the field throughout the 2017 season.
“Alex has bought real X-factor to our VFL forward line and had a really consistent year culminating in 31 goals and was one of the outstanding forwards of the VFL competition,” Corrigan said.
“He plays with speed and can win the ball at ground level while also being a good mark, hence playing tall when needed.
“He has worked really hard on his defensive side of the game and averaged three tackles per game. He is now a really balanced player in offence and defence.
“Alex has worked really hard on his body to improve his durability and should be commended on his commitment to the VFL program.”
