VFL Senior Coach Leigh Tudor assesses the performances of our AFL-listed players from the loss to the Swans.
Elijah Tsatas
22 disposals, six clearances, five tackles
Elijah spent most of the second half up forward after starting in the midfield. He won enough of his own ball and looked strong in the clearance at times, but it was also nice to see him develop some forward craft as well. He battled hard all day for us.
Lewis Hayes
24 disposals, six marks
‘Hayesy’ got his hands on it a bit and looked to generate attack, which was good. Defensively, he did get caught out on a couple of occasions due to the volume of inside 50’s Sydney had, but he worked hard and stayed in the game against some really good opponents.
Sam Weideman
25 disposals, seven marks
‘Weids’ played down back again this week and looked quite competitive in the air with some big spoils and contested marks. He’s obviously still learning his defensive craft in terms of positioning, but he’ll get better with it every week, I’m sure.
Kaine Baldwin
21 disposals, eight marks, three tackles
I thought Kaine was definitely one of our best on a tough day. He was moved onto Will Gould at quarter-time, keeping him goalless after the break and doing a great job on him. He's been super reliable all year and defended really hard again this week, backing up his great form.
Rhett Montgomerie
16 disposals, six marks, five tackles
Rhett had to defend pretty hard this week against some dangerous forwards, and I felt he held his own. He competed well in the air and did a pretty good job overall.
Anthony McDonald-Tipungwuti
12 disposals, three tackles, one goal
Really lively around the ball, even with limited opportunities. Attack-wise, he created some good chances from contests and kept looking to work his way into it.
Alastair Lord
14 disposals, four marks, three tackles
‘Lordy’ had some nice pieces of run-and-carry play which has been one of his strengths in recent weeks. He had his work cut out defensively but kept putting his hand up.
Tex Wanganeen
Nine disposals, four tackles, two goals
Tex was strong in the contest this week, getting a bit more time as a midfielder. He still looks dangerous for us going forward and got some scoreboard reward, which is promising for him.
Pat Voss
11 disposals, three marks, one goal
It was a tough day for ‘Vossy’ with the lack of chances up forward, but you still know he’ll compete hard. The setup ahead of the ball wasn’t up to scratch, but he’ll get to work at those leading patterns and continue to build.
Cian McBride
Six disposals, seven hit-outs
Cian competed really hard in defence and had some good learning opportunities when pinch-hitting in the ruck against Sydney’s talls. He’ll be better for the experience against good opposition.
Anthony Munkara
Nine disposals, two marks
Anthony showed some glimpses and looked lively in contests. He’ll look to build and start getting more opportunities with ball in hand, getting fitter and stronger every week.
Massimo D’Ambrosio
Six disposals
‘Mass’ started well but copped a bad ‘corkie’ in the first term and couldn’t come back on, so that was a disappointing one for us to start the day.
James Stewart
Six disposals
‘Stuz’ played three quarters for us in his first game back this year. It was a tough day for the forwards lacking a lot of opportunities to work with, but it was so good to see him back out on the field again. He’s such an important player for the club and hopefully we’ll see a full game out of him next week.
