Essendon youngster Dyson Heppell is continuing to learn from his experiences in the club's leadership group with the hope of one day becoming captain.
Heppell is currently a member of the club's seven man leadership group led by skipper Jobe Watson.
The 22-year-old said he would relish the opportunity to one day captain the side he supported as a child.
"I would like to be a leader one day but whether that happens or not I don't know," Heppell said.
"Jobe is outstanding, his leadership has improved so much over the last few years since I have been at the club."
"I have learnt so much from him as well as the other leaders in the team which is fantastic."
In his fourth season Heppell has had his best season in the red and black to date averaging 28 disposals, 7 marks and 5 tackles from his ten matches.
"It is good to get some consistency, I have taken my game to another level and that has been really good," he said.
The midfielder said he was still working on the best way to handle being tagged by the opposition due to his improved form.
"It is tough (dealing with taggers), but I see it as a challenge and something that I want to thrive off," Heppell said.
"It's an honour to cop the tag from the opposition so you have to work through things like that and the best players in the competition do."
