In a major boost towards his quest to be fit for round one Essendon midfielder David Zaharakis today completed his first full training session with the main group since injuring his quadriceps in late January.

Zaharakis will not take part in any football this weekend but is expected to see some VFL action in a bid to prove his fitness ahead of the club’s round one clash against Adelaide on March 22.

“We have worked him really hard at training and given him big minutes of hard work but just didn’t want to risk him in a full game,” General Manager – Football Danny Corcoran said.

“He is such an important player for us and we want to make sure we get him ready for round one.”

In a further boost for the Bombers key forward Scott Gumbleton is set to return through the VFL on Saturday afternoon.

Gumbleton will line up alongside father/son recruit Joe Daniher in a practice match against Collingwood at Victoria Park.

Jason Winderlich is still suffering from groin soreness which will once again see him miss out on playing any football this weekend.

Hamstringsoreness has limited third-year midfielder Alex Browne recently, with the20-year-old last week confined to modified duties.

Browne had problemswith his hamstring last pre-season but played in the opening round of the NABCup.
