It was 12 years ago when Matthew Lloyd booted his way in to the history books.
In round 19 in 2003 against the Western Bulldogs, Lloyd passed Simon Madden’s record to become Essendon’s all-time greatest goal kicker.
Lloyd kicked 11 goals as the Bombers beat the Dogs by 67 points.
Essendon kicked nine goals in the opening term with six of them going to the superstar forward.
Lloyd kicked his seventh goal early in the third term to equal Madden’s record. His eighth came from a mark at what is now known as the ‘Lloyd end’.
Mark and Jason Johnson were instrumental in the victory gathering 25 possessions each.
While Scott Lucas had 27 disposals from centre half back.
